CATHOLIC PARENTING

Catholic parenting is the task of leading children toward God while forming them into virtuous, confident, and compassionate adults. Because the family is the domestic church, the home is where faith is first seen, practiced, and loved. Parents do not simply talk about Christ; they hand on the Catholic Faith through daily example, the same way the Faith has been handed down for centuries.
Tradition plays a central role. Catholic parents root their family life in the wisdom of the Church: Scripture, the teachings of the saints, the liturgical year, and the moral teachings that have guided Catholics through every age. This means honoring and teaching practices that shape the heart: daily prayer, the Rosary, reverence at Mass, Confession, fasting, feasts, and devotion to Our Lady and the saints.
Catholic parenting also recognizes that each child is made in the image of God, with a unique purpose that God desires to unfold. Parents nurture this through virtue formation: teaching patience, courage, modesty, charity, humility, and the ability to sacrifice for others. These virtues are not trends or personal preferences; they are rooted in the moral Tradition of the Church and supported by grace.
In a culture that often shifts with every new idea, Catholic parenting stands firm in what is true, good, and beautiful. It teaches children that holiness is more important than achievement, that truth is not invented but received, and that the faith we practice today is the same faith handed down from the Apostles.
Ultimately, Catholic parenting is not about producing perfect children; it is about forming souls who know, love and serve God, and to ultimately be happy with Him forever in heaven.

“This video does not attempt to teach sex education nor does it attempt to bypass the parents or take their place, rather it is an attempt to provide a context and some confidence to parents as they strive to educate their children.” Fr. Robert Altier
Beginning at Home: The Challenge of Christian Parenthood

This online book by Mary Perkins includes discussion and study topics that parents should think through together. The husband and wife in a Catholic family should make a conscious effort to, as Mrs. Perkins says, "sacramentalize" family life; in order to do so, they must have that as a clear goal and discuss together ways of bringing it about.
